Therapy Theatre Project

The Therapy Theatre Project incorporates theatre experience into education programs to support trauma-informed care for both professional therapists and the general public.

These programs are experienced-based, high-participation learning opportunities for therapists, coaches, spiritual directors, and other caregivers who wish to have deeper understanding of the impact of trauma on their clients.

Programs for general audiences offer understanding of trauma and resources for resilience in their own lives and for people they care about.

My newest project is Working My Way Back…and Forward, a full-length one-person musical drama. In it I portray a man who is challenged by life and traumas enough to realize his need for therapy. I also portray his therapist. In their intense relationship we see and experience how he finds resources for change and healing traumas. His music sings his struggles and his successes. Both client and therapist change in the relationship.

Workshop participants view a video of the play in four episodes, then use journal reflections, conversation, presentation, and mindful self-attention to explore their own direct and immediate responses. Through this process, participants discover resources to manage trauma’s impact for themselves as well as those they serve professionally.

CE credits are available for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists.
